Where to buy Televisions Online

Buying Televisions at Tesco

Tesco has come a long way since it was founded by Jack Cohen in 1919. It now offers a range of facilities for its customers, and rewards the loyal with its Clubcard scheme.

Always keeping up with the times, Tesco launched an online shopping website in 2000. From this easy to navigate site you can order different types of television such as plasma, rear-projection, traditional, widescreen, LCD, portable, TV/DVD combis or TV/VCR combis and a wide range of set-top boxes.

Tesco's online electrical store offers many television brands including Bush, Daewoo, Goodmans, JVC, Philips, Roadstar, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba.

Buying Televisions from Tesco: Shipping & Delivery

Delivery from Tesco is free. They deliver to England, Scotland and Wales and Tesco's couriers cover most areas. Tesco also uses Parcelforce to deliver to some areas.

Tesco aims to deliver your goods within 3 - 7 working days. Larger items and items delivered by Parcelforce may take longer. When you order a television or television accessory from Tesco, you will be given an approximate delivery date.

A signature is only usually required on large products ordered from Tesco and delivered by the manufacturer. Only an adult aged 18 or over can sign for delivery.

If no-one is home, the courier will leave a card stating the time and date they called. You can then call the number on the card to arrange a second delivery date. However, this may be subject to extra delivery charges.

Tesco doesn't offer an online order tracking service. If there are any problems with your order, you can ring Tesco's helpline, which costs 8p per minute on BT lines and varies with other phone companies.

  • Quick Delivery Service: This service is available for some large and widescreen televisions. The individual product pages on the Tesco site will show you whether or not this service is available. After placing an order with this service, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. Tesco will then phone you to confirm an exact delivery date for the television. You will usually receive your television within seven days of placing your order.
  • Preferred Delivery: This service is available for many large household appliances. The individual product pages on the Tesco site will show you whether or not this service is available. To order this way, don't continue to the checkout. Instead, take a note of the product number shown on the site and phone Tesco on the given phone number. Delivery normally takes 5 working days.
  • Direct Delivery: This is available if the television is not in stock, or you don't choose either the Preferred Delivery or Direct Delivery service. With Direct Delivery, your television is will be delivered direct from the manufacturer. You can find the estimated delivery time on the product page. The courier may need to contact you by telephone before to arrange an exact delivery date. Your television will be delivered subject to the manufacturer's terms and conditions.

In all cases, you should make sure that you give your correct phone number to Tesco.

Buying Televisions from Tesco: Refunds/Returns

Televisions cannot be returned to a Tesco store and Tesco asks you to use a courier that allows online order tracking when returning goods. Tesco also stress that you should insure the television for full value as you are liable for up to a 50% loss over any damage.

Your original payment method will be used for any refund.

Non-faulty Televisions

These must be returned in the original, undamaged packaging. You should notify Tesco that you wish to return a non-faulty television within 14 days of receipt. Any power cables, remotes, instruction booklets, aerial leads and SCART leads must be included.

A returns slip is included with the television. Fill this in and contact the courier using the number on the label of the television packaging. This service is free. However, Tesco does not accept non-faulty goods after 14 days.

Faulty Televisions

These should be returned to Tesco detailing the fault. The courier can be contacted using the number on the package label. Once the television has been returned to the Tesco warehouse, your account will be credited.

“Dead on Arrival” (DOA)

This means the television is incapable of “basic operation” when first delivered from Tesco. If this is the case, you should contact Tesco's Technical Support within 7 days.

Once Tesco has confirmed that your television was “dead on arrival”, you will have the choice of a replacement, repair, or refund. If you choose to have your television repaired, you will no longer be eligible for a replacement television.

Repairs

The manufacturers standard warranty will apply to all products bought from Tesco. Most warranties are for a minimum of 12 months. If a fault occurs after 14 days, it will be repaired by the terms of the warranty. Where the manufacturer offers product support, Tesco advises you to contact them directly.

For all television repairs you will need proof of purchase, otherwise you will be charged for the repair. The turnaround of the repair will depend on how busy the manufacturer is.

Please note: A manufacturer may void the warranty if in their opinion the fault was caused by misuse or accidental damage.

Where the television is not covered by the warranty, you will be charged for the repair. An estimate will be emailed once the television has been examined. You must notify Tesco that you have received the estimate within 10 days. If you don't notify Tesco, the television will be returned un-repaired, and you will have to pay a charge of £30.
