LCD TV

LCD Televisions - The Advantages of LCD TV

LCD televisions have a number of advantages over other types of television. Here are some of the benefits of buying an LCD television.

LCD Televisions produce Clearer Pictures

An LCD TV produces a clearer picture than a traditional cathode ray tube television and the screen is also flicker-free meaning that you are less likely to suffer from eye-strain. LCD TVs don’t have scan lines like traditional TVs either.

Space-Saving Designs of LCD TVs

LCD TVs are usually slim and sleek with a flat-screen and in-built tuner, meaning that they take up less space in your living room than a traditional television and look less obtrusive.

LCD is Suitable for Soft Lighting

Unlike traditional cathode ray tube televisions, LCD televisions still perform well in rooms with softer lighting and are less prone to glare.

LCD TVs are Kinder to the Environment

LCD televisions generate less radiation than traditional televisions and also use far less power, meaning that they are more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Wide Viewing Angles

You can position LCD TVs to suit you wherever you are sitting as most have a viewing angle of up to 160°. You can keep them in a cabinet, on your desk or mounted on the wall depending on what’s most suitable for your living room.

Choice of LCD TV Screen Sizes

LCD televisions come in a range of screen sizes from 13 inches to 55 inches and are now also available in widescreen.

Sound Quality of LCD Televisions

Many LCD TVs have built-in speakers and stereo amplifiers, but you can also use them as part of your home theatre to get an even better sound.

Multi-functional

An LCD television can double up as a computer monitor that produces sharp high-resolution graphics and text. Some LCD TVs even have dual outputs so that you can connect two computers to one screen.

Most LCD TVs are HD-Ready

Most LCD TVs are compatible with HDTV broadcasts so you won’t need to upgrade when HDTV becomes mainstream.

LCD Televisions – Lifespan

The average lifespan of an LCD TV is a massive 60,000 hours, providing real value for money.

The Disadvantages of LCD Televisions

Although LCD televisions have many positive features, there are a number of points to bear in mind when considering whether or not to choose an LCD television:

Colours on Large Screen Models

Although you can get large screen LCD televisions, you may find that the colours don’t look as true as they do on smaller-sized LCD screens. However, manufacturers are continuing to develop larger LCD screens, so this is likely to improve.

LCD Dead Pixels

With the number of pixels and transistors used in LCD televisions it’s inevitable that some pixels will fail and become what are known as “dead pixels”. Usually you won’t notice dead pixels, but once a pixel has died you can’t repair it, and eventually as the number of dead pixels increases this will start to affect what you see on screen.

LCD TV Backlight Lifespan

Although LCD TVs have a long life-span, the backlight in the television has a shorter life-span. As the bulb ages, the colours are likely to become unbalanced and disturb your viewing. Many of the main manufacturer’s guarantee the backlights, so if you buy an LCD with this sort of guarantee it means that you won’t have to replace your whole set just because the backlight has stopped working properly. Some backlights are built into the unit, but others are replaceable so it’s important to research this when deciding which model or brand of LCD TV to buy.
