DLP Televisions - The Advantages of DLP TelevisionsDLP (Digital Light Processing) televisions have a number of advantages over other types of television. Here are some of the benefits of buying a DLP television. Advantages of DLP TVBrightness and Viewing AngleDue to the technology behind the DLP, the televisions have a wonderful brightness and a tremendous viewing angle, better than has been seen from rear-projection televisions previously. DLP Televisions - ContrastThe contrast that a DLP TV offers is superior to that offered by an LCD TV by quite a margin. Reliability of DLP TVThe design of a DLP television means that there are no individual parts that can suffer a burn out, except for the lamp which can be easily replaced, so it will be very reliable. DLP Screen SizeDLP rear projection TVs can have huge screens and with 72 and 84 inch screens in production together with the fact that manufacturers are looking to develop models that can hang on the wall, the DLP TV could, in the future, be the answer to the storage problems associated with large screen televisions.. Colour DepthIn expensive models there are three DLP chips, one each for the red, green, and blue channels. These give an incredible amount of depth to the colours. Sound QualityMany DLP TVs have built-in speakers and stereo amplifiers, but you can also use them as part of your home theatre to get an even better sound. HD-Ready DLP TVsMany DLP TVs are designed to be compatible with HDTV broadcasts so you won't need to upgrade to a new television when HDTV becomes mainstream. Developing TechnologyMany companies such as Samsung are investing heavily in Digital Light Processing technology, meaning that DLP televisions are continuing to be developed. The technology is evolving at a rapid rate to ensure that it keeps up with consumer demands. Video QualityThanks to the strides made with this technology, the DLP TV has a video quality which is better than that offered by commercial cinemas. DLP Backlight LifespanWith the backlight offering around 80,000 hours of usage, and being able to be replaced for a reasonable cost, the DLP television is good value for money. Due to the mirror/light method that this type of TV uses, when you replace the bulb the picture quality should be the same as it was when brand new. DLP Televisions The Disadvantages of DLP TelevisionsAlthough DLP televisions have many positive features, there are a number of points to bear in mind when considering whether or not to choose a DLP television: Contrast QualityThe contrast quality of a DLP screen is nowhere near as good as that of, for example, a plasma screen. This may improve in the future, but at the moment compared to other types of television, the DLP is behind the current crop of sets on offer. PriceDLP TVs which use the three-chip colour technology are expensive. Most DLP televisions in the standard price range will use a colour wheel to define the pictures, which won't be as good. Rainbow EffectCheaper sets which use the spinning wheel technology can lead to the picture suffering from what is widely known as the Rainbow Effect. Because of the rapid rates at which the colours change, many people's eyes can't distinguish between different. This Rainbow Effect can lead to cases of eyestrain and headaches which will not happen in other TVs due to their constant colour output. SizeIf you buy a rear projection DLP TV or projector it will still take up a lot more room than, for example, an LCD TV, limiting where you can position the set.
