Sharp is a household name and leading brand of television and home cinema system.

Sharp was founded in 1912 when Tokuji Hayakawa established a metal works in Tokyo, and after creating the Ever Sharp Pencil, Sharp became the corporate name and trademark.

In 1964 Sharp began production of the world's first all transistor desktop calculator, and within a decade they devised a calculator which incorporated LCD technology. This same technology has become a major part of their range of televisions today.

Sharp now manufactures a wide range of electronic products including televisions and home cinema equipment, and even the worlds first Internet ViewCam which uses MPEG4 technology.
